Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch bundt cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, oil, eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the mixture from the second bowl to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  5. Pour in the hot water and stir until the batter is smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan.
  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until light and fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, alternating with heavy cream, and mix until smooth. Stir in vanilla extract.
  9. Once the cake is cooled, create small holes throughout the top of the cake. Spoon the cream cheese filling into the holes.
  10. In a heatproof bowl, combine chopped chocolate and heavy cream. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring after each until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Add butter and stir until fully incorporated.
  11. Pour the warm ganache over the top of the cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Dust with powdered sugar for a finishing touch.
  12. Slice and serve immediately, or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Notes

For best flavor, serve at room temperature. Pairs well with whipped cream or ice cream.
