  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Chocolate shavings
  • White cream swirls
  • Chocolate curls

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients with the buttermilk, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the three pans and bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form in a separate bowl.
  9. In another bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth, then gently fold in the whipped cream to create a light frosting.
  10. Layer the cakes with frosting between each layer. Frost the top and sides evenly with the remaining frosting.
  11. Decorate with cream swirls, chocolate curls, and chocolate shavings. Chill before serving.

Notes

Serve chilled for the best flavor. Cover tightly to store in the refrigerator for up to five days.
