Delightful twist on classic cinnamon rolls infused with ube flavor, topped with creamy frosting.

- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tsp ube extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp cinnamon
- 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 tbsp Trader Joe’s Ube Spread
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and yeast. Add warm milk, melted butter, egg, ube extract, and salt. Mix until a dough forms. Knead for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled.
- Prepare the Filling: In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and brown sugar. In another bowl, cream softened butter until smooth.
- Roll Out the Dough: After dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 1/4 inch thick). Spread softened butter over the surface. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on top, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Roll and Cut: Starting from the long edge closest to you, roll dough tightly away from you. Pinch seam to seal. Cut roll into 1 1/2 inch pieces and place in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, cut side up. Cover and let rise again for 30-45 minutes, or until doubled.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C). Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool for 5 minutes after baking.
- Make the Frosting: In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, softened butter, and Ube spread until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar until desired consistency is reached.
- Frost and Serve: Spread frosting over warm rolls with an offset spatula. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, ensure milk is warm but not too hot to avoid killing the yeast. Knead well for a fluffy texture and don’t skip the second rise.
