Ingredients

- 1 and 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
- 1 and 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
- 1 and 1/2 cups (360ml) heavy cream
- 2 cups (340g) semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
- Chocolate shavings, curls, or piped chocolate decorations (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients. Mix until fully combined, then add the boiling water to the batter and mix well.
- Divide the batter equally between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the ganache, heat the cream until it is simmering. Pour it over the chopped chocolate and stir until smooth.
- Once the cake is cool, spread the chocolate ganache evenly over the top and sides. Optionally, decorate with chocolate shavings, curls, or other chocolate decorations.
Notes
Ensure your ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Don’t skip the boiling water for moisture.
