Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 cups dark chocolate ganache
  • 1 cup chocolate shavings

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth.
  4. Carefully stir in the boiling water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Spread the chocolate ganache between the layers and over the top.
  9. Decorate with chocolate shavings and chill in the refrigerator for 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For added richness, use high-quality dark chocolate for the ganache. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
