A delightful layered cake featuring rich chocolate cake and luscious dark and white chocolate mousses, perfect for celebrations or a sweet indulgence.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (for dark chocolate mousse)
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for dark chocolate mousse)
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (for white chocolate mousse)
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar (for white chocolate mousse)
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate shavings or curls
  • Fresh berries (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add in the egg, milk, vegetable oil, hot water, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Let the cake cool completely.
  6. For the dark chocolate mousse, melt the dark chocolate chips and let cool slightly. In another bowl, whip 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream with 2 tbsp of powdered sugar until soft peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate.
  7. For the white chocolate mousse, melt the white chocolate chips and let cool slightly. Again, whip 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream with 2 tbsp of powdered sugar until soft peaks form and fold into the melted white chocolate.
  8. Once the cake has cooled, slice it in half horizontally. Place the dark chocolate mousse on top of the bottom layer of cake, then add the top layer. Spread the white chocolate mousse on top of the entire cake.
  9. Chill the cake for at least 2 hours.
  10. Decorate with dark chocolate shavings or curls and fresh berries if desired. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Serve chilled for the best flavor and texture. For added texture, mix in some crushed cookies or nuts into the mousse layers.
