- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup whole milk (room temperature)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces dark chocolate (70% cocoa), melted
- 8 ounces milk chocolate, melted
- 8 ounces white chocolate, melted
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional for glaze)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Add milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the cake completely.
- Melt the dark, milk, and white chocolate separately and allow each to cool slightly.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla until stiff peaks form. Divide the whipped cream into three portions and fold each portion into the melted chocolate.
- Place the cooled cake layer on a serving plate or inside a springform pan. Spread the dark chocolate mousse over the cake, followed by the milk chocolate mousse, and finally, the white chocolate mousse.
- Smooth the top and refrigerate for 2–4 hours until set.
- For the optional glaze, melt the chocolate chips and butter together until smooth. Pour over the chilled mousse cake and chill until firm.
- Serve chilled, garnished with chocolate shavings, chopped nuts, or fresh berries.
Notes
Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Melt chocolate slowly to avoid burning. Allow cake layers to cool completely before assembly.
