An indulgent dessert featuring three layers of rich chocolate mousse – dark, milk, and white – on a moist chocolate cake, perfect for special occasions.

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup whole milk (room temperature)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces dark chocolate (70% cocoa), melted
- 8 ounces milk chocolate, melted
- 8 ounces white chocolate, melted
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional glaze)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder.
- Add milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the cake completely before assembly.
- Melt dark, milk, and white chocolate separately, allowing each to cool slightly.
- In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Divide the whipped cream into three equal portions. Gently fold one portion of whipped cream into each melted chocolate.
- Place the cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread the dark chocolate mousse evenly over the cake, followed by milk chocolate mousse, and finally white chocolate mousse. Smooth the top and refrigerate for 2–4 hours until set.
- Melt chocolate chips and butter together until smooth for the optional glaze. Pour the glaze over the chilled mousse cake and spread evenly. Chill until firm.
- Serve chilled, garnished with chocolate shavings, nuts, or berries, and enjoy!
Notes
For best results, ensure chocolate is melted but not too hot when folding into whipped cream. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
