Description
A decadent dessert combining three rich chocolate mousse layers atop a moist chocolate cake, perfect for chocolate lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup whole milk, room temperature
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces dark chocolate (70% cocoa), melted
- 8 ounces milk chocolate, melted
- 8 ounces white chocolate, melted
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (optional glaze)
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (optional glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder. Add milk, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool the cake completely before assembly.
- Melt dark, milk, and white chocolate separately, allowing each to cool slightly. In another bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Divide the whipped cream into three equal portions. Gently fold one portion of whipped cream into each melted chocolate, creating three mousse flavors.
- Place the cooled cake layer on a serving plate or inside a springform pan for easy layering. Spread the dark chocolate mousse evenly over the cake, followed by the milk chocolate mousse, and finally, the white chocolate mousse.
- Smooth the top and refrigerate for 2–4 hours until set.
- Melt the chocolate chips and butter together until smooth. Pour the glaze over the chilled mousse cake and spread evenly. Chill until the glaze is firm.
- Decorate with chocolate shavings, chopped nuts, or fresh berries for an elegant touch. Serve chilled and enjoy.
Notes
Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best mixing. High-quality chocolate yields the best flavor.
