Description

A rich, moist dessert perfect for chocolate lovers, made with three types of chocolate for ultimate flavor.


Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • 8 oz dark chocolate (for ganache)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three 9-inch round cake pans and line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and fully combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. To make the ganache, heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and pour over the chopped dark chocolate. Let sit for a minute, then stir until smooth.
  10. Once the cakes are fully cooled, spread a layer of ganache between each cake layer. Use the remaining ganache to frost the top and sides of the cake.
  11. Chill the cake for 30 minutes to set the ganache before serving.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to five days. Let all ingredients reach room temperature before mixing for better results.
