Indulge in this rich and decadent Triple Chocolate Cake, layered with smooth chocolate frosting and topped with a warm hot fudge sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3⁄4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3⁄4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1⁄2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1⁄2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1⁄4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (adjust for consistency)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (for frosting)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for hot fudge sauce)
  • 1/2 cup corn syrup
  • 3/4 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for hot fudge sauce)
  • 1/4 cup sugar (for hot fudge sauce)
  • 1 tsp vanilla (for hot fudge sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line two 8-inch cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla. Beat until combined.
  4. Gradually add the hot coffee and mix until smooth; the batter will be thin.
  5. Pour the mixture into the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes. Let them cool completely.
  6. In a mixing bowl, cream the softened butter until smooth. Add cocoa powder, powdered sugar, and salt.
  7. Mix while slowly adding the milk until fluffy and spreadable. Beat in the vanilla extract.
  8. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, corn syrup, cocoa powder, sugar, and chocolate chips. Bring to a low boil, whisking until smooth.
  9. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla. Let it cool slightly.
  10. Layer the cake with frosting between the two layers and cover the entire cake with frosting.
  11. Chill for about 20 minutes, warm the hot fudge sauce, and pour it generously over each slice.
  12. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and extra hot fudge sauce.

Notes

For a more indulgent version, consider adding chocolate chips to the cake batter or experimenting with different types of chocolate for the frosting.
