- 8 oz semisweet or dark chocolate

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans.
- Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl.
- Add eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract, and beat until smooth.
- Slowly pour in boiling water or hot coffee, mixing until fully combined; the batter will be thin.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- For the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, alternating with heavy cream, and mixing until smooth.
- On a serving plate, place one cake layer and spread frosting over the top. Repeat with the second and third layers, covering the top and sides of the cake with remaining frosting.
- For the ganache, heat heavy cream until simmering, pour over chopped chocolate, let sit for 5 minutes, then stir until smooth.
- Pour ganache over the frosted cake, allowing it to drip down the sides. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to set.
- Slice and serve.
