Description
A delightful dish combining tender chicken with a flavorful sweet and savory sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners or special occasions.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 teaspoons water (slurry)
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 3 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add garlic and ginger, and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Slowly whisk in the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. Stir constantly until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and toss well to coat it evenly with the sauce. Cook for an additional 2 minutes so the chicken absorbs the flavors.
- Remove from heat, sprinkle with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
Notes
Serve over steamed rice or with noodles. Adjust sweetness and heat to your liking.
