Description

A comforting casserole that combines the flavors of traditional stuffed cabbage rolls with ground beef, rice, and a rich tomato sauce, topped with melty cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 3 1/2 pounds chopped cabbage (about 1 medium head)
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups cooked rice
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella (or cheese of choice)
  • 2 (15 oz) cans tomato sauce
  • 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet; sauté until onions are translucent.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the cooked beef mixture with chopped cabbage, cooked rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, and half of the cheese. Stir well to combine.
  5. Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  6. Top with the remaining cheese.
  7. Cover with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  9. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve hot with a side of crusty bread or a fresh green salad. You can also top with sour cream or fresh herbs for extra flavor. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2-3 months.
