- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups (190g) flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup (60ml) milk, at room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch square baking pan.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is well incorporated before adding the next. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix just until combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Serve plain or with a sprinkle of powdered sugar or whipped cream. Pairs well with fresh fruit.
