An easy recipe for a rich and moist chocolate cake, perfect for any celebration or a comforting dessert.

- 2 cups granulated white sugar
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup warm water or coffee
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup corn, vegetable, safflower, or canola oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 6 ounces semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1 cup unsalted butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, warm water or coffee, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
- For the frosting, melt the chopped chocolate and let it cool. In a bowl, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add the melted chocolate and mix until smooth.
- Frost the cooled cakes as you like.
Notes
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
