Description

An easy recipe for a rich and moist chocolate cake, perfect for any celebration or a comforting dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated white sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup warm water or coffee
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup corn, vegetable, safflower, or canola oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet or bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cup unsalted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, warm water or coffee, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Mix everything together until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. For the frosting, melt the chopped chocolate and let it cool. In a bowl, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add the melted chocolate and mix until smooth.
  8. Frost the cooled cakes as you like.

Notes

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
