Decadent dessert combining rich chocolate, crunchy pecans, and sweet salted caramel, perfect for any occasion.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 and 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- Whole pecans for garnish
- Extra caramel sauce for dripping
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, granulated sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the eggs, buttermilk, warm water, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes. Once baked, let the cakes cool completely.
- For the caramel frosting, melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar and heavy cream. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the sea salt. Let it cool slightly, then beat in the powdered sugar until smooth.
- Frost the bottom layer of the cake with caramel frosting. Place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Drizzle with extra caramel sauce and decorate with whole pecans and chopped pecans.
Notes
Allow the cakes to cool completely before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
