- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
- 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Pinch of salt (for frosting)
- Chocolate balls or truffles (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter between the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Once done, let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before turning them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the buttercream frosting, beat the butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, beating until smooth. Add heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt, and beat until light and fluffy.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate, spread frosting on top, place the second layer, and frost the top and sides with a thin layer of frosting. Chill for 30 minutes.
- Using a piping bag, pipe rosettes on the cake and place chocolate balls around the top edge.
- The cake is ready to be served.
Notes
Ensure that all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Do not overmix the batter.
