- 1/3 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Powder

- 1 cup Sugar
- 2 large Eggs
- 1 cup Milk

- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 cup Hot Water
- 1 cup Unsalted Butter, softened
- 4 cups Confectioner’s Sugar
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 2 tbsp Heavy Cream (or as needed)
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the sugar, eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the hot water. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the confectioner’s sugar, cocoa powder, cream, and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth and creamy, adjusting the consistency with more cream if needed.
- Place one cooled cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of frosting over it. Repeat with the second layer, then top with the third layer. Cover the entire cake with frosting, smoothing it out with an offset spatula.
- Sprinkle crumbled chocolate cookies or crushed Oreos on top for added texture and flavor.
- Chill the cake for at least 30 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For a twist, try adding a layer of raspberry jam or fresh berries between the cake layers. Allow all ingredients to be at room temperature for better mixing.
