Description

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Stir in the boiling water.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the two pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until creamy. Add the heavy cream and mix until smooth.
  6. Spread frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as you like.
  7. Slice and serve.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best results. Do not skip the boiling water step to create a moist cake.
