- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat until smooth. Stir in the boiling water.
- Divide the batter evenly between the two pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until creamy. Add the heavy cream and mix until smooth.
- Spread frosting between the layers and over the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as you like.
- Slice and serve.
Notes
Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best results. Do not skip the boiling water step to create a moist cake.
