- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat the mixture until smooth. Stir in the boiling water.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool completely in the pans before transferring to a wire rack.
- In another bowl, beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar, and cocoa powder until creamy. Add the heavy cream and mix until smooth.
- Spread the frosting between the layers of cake and apply over the top and sides. Decorate as desired.
