A decadent chocolate cake layered with fluffy cream and topped with a rich chocolate ganache. Perfect for celebrations!

- 2 cups (240g) all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup (60g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
- 8 oz (225g) semi-sweet or dark chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter (optional)
- 2 cups (480ml) heavy cream
- 1/2 cup (60g) powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls (for garnish)
- Fresh berries or edible flowers (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch (23cm) round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Add the sugar and mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually add to the dry ingredients, mixing to combine. Slowly pour in boiling water and mix until smooth.
- Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- For the ganache, place chopped chocolate in a bowl. Heat cream in a saucepan until simmering. Pour it over the chocolate, let it sit, then stir until smooth. Add butter if desired. Cool to room temperature.
- For the whipped topping, beat cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until soft peaks form.
- Assemble the cake by placing one layer on a plate, spreading whipped cream on top, adding the second layer, and frosting with remaining whipped cream.
- Drip cooled ganache around the edges and pour in the center, spreading it outward. Add garnishes as desired.
- Chill the cake for at least 1 hour before serving.
Notes
Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature. Use high-quality chocolate for a richer ganache. You can also add coffee or orange zest for different flavors.
