  • 1/3 cup whole milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Dark chocolate chunks (about 1/2 cup)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional, for extra texture)
  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Chocolate bars (optional, for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  4. Slowly pour in the boiling water, mixing well until the batter is combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before moving them to wire racks to cool completely.
  7. To make the frosting, melt the butter and stir in the cocoa powder until smooth.
  8. Gradually add the powdered sugar and milk, mixing until creamy, then stir in the vanilla and salt.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes with the chocolate frosting. Garnish with chocolate chunks and shavings if desired. Finish with a dusting of cocoa powder and serve.
