Description

A stunning dessert that combines the classic flavors of red velvet with the charm of an evergreen tree, perfect for holidays and special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups (360ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) red food coloring
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups (500g) powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Edible silver and red baubles
  • Small edible glitter stars
  • White chocolate shavings
  • A star-shaped topper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and line multiple round cake pans of decreasing sizes.
  2. Sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a large bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter among the prepared pans and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  6. Let the cakes cool in their pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  8. Stack the cake layers, frosting between each, and trim as needed for a conical shape.
  9. Decorate with frosting swirls, edible baubles, glitter stars, and white chocolate shavings.
  10. Top with the star-shaped topper and serve.

Notes

Make sure the ingredients are at room temperature for best results. Use gel food coloring for a richer red color.
