Ingredients

  • 250 g flour
  • 300 g sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 240 ml buttermilk
  • 120 ml vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Red food coloring
  • 250 g mascarpone
  • 200 g cream cheese
  • 100 g powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease two round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and cocoa powder together.
  3. In another bowl, beat eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, vinegar, vanilla, and red food coloring.
  4. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and mix well.
  5. Pour the batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Allow to cool.
  6. For the frosting, beat mascarpone, cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  7. Assemble cake layers with frosting in between, then cover the cake completely with frosting.
  8. Sprinkle red crumbs on top for decoration.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for best results. Adjust red food coloring for desired shade.
