Description

Delightful Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls with a blend of sweet and slightly tangy flavors, topped with creamy icing. Perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Add sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, vinegar, cocoa powder, 2 cups of flour, salt, and red food coloring. Mix until smooth. Gradually add the remaining flour until a soft dough forms. Knead until elastic, about 5-10 minutes.
  2. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a 16×21-inch rectangle. Spread softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle evenly with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  4. Roll up the dough tightly and cut it into 12 rolls. Place the rolls in a greased 9×13 inch baking pan. Cover and let rise until nearly doubled, about 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. In a bowl, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Add milk as needed to achieve a pourable consistency.
  7. Spread icing over the warm rolls before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Serve warm straight from the oven, optionally with extra icing. Can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
