- 1 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
- A few drops of red food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and a pinch of salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the sugar and vegetable oil, then beat in the eggs one at a time until well combined.
- Add the buttermilk, vanilla extract, white vinegar, and red food coloring, mixing until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cool, layer with your favorite cream cheese frosting and cover the top and sides.

Notes
To enhance the red color, use gel food coloring instead of liquid. All ingredients should be at room temperature for better mixing.
