- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder in a large bowl.
- Whisk buttermilk, eggs, purple food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar in another bowl.
- Beat softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (4-5 minutes).
- Alternately add dry and wet ingredients into the butter mixture until just combined.
- Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
- Cool cakes for 10 minutes in the pans, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla, and salt.
- Spread frosting on the first layer, stack the second layer, and frost the entire cake.
- Slice and serve, optionally decorating with edible flowers or purple sprinkles.
Notes
Use gel food coloring for a more vibrant color. Ensure ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing.
