Ingredients

  • 8 slices thick Italian bread or sourdough
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup pizza sauce (plus extra for dipping)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 24 slices pepperoni (or more, to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, chopped

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with garlic powder. Spread this mixture on one side of each bread slice.
  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Place 4 slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.
  3. Spread 2–3 tablespoons of pizza sauce on each slice of bread.
  4. Sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheeses on top.
  5. Layer pepperoni slices over the cheese and add a pinch of Italian seasoning.
  6. Top with more cheese, then place the remaining bread slices on top, buttered side up.
  7. Cook until the bottom is golden brown and crisp, about 3–4 minutes. Carefully flip the sandwiches and cook the other side until the cheese is melted and gooey.
  8. Remove from heat, slice in half, and garnish with fresh basil. Serve hot with extra pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, skip the pepperoni and add veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms.
