  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk, room temperature
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Cream cheese frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, sift together flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, white vinegar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  7. Once cooled, frost with cream cheese frosting.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Adjust food coloring to achieve your preferred shade of pink.
