- 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Food coloring in multiple colors
- 1 cup heavy cream (for drips)
- Sprinkles (for decoration)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans and set aside.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 4-5 minutes).
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter into six bowls and tint each with food coloring.
- Pour each colored batter into the prepared cake pans, starting with the lightest color.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, stack the layers from lightest to darkest, spreading a thin layer of frosting between each. Crumb coat the entire cake and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
- Whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form, then prepare your choice of dripping sauce.
- Once chilled, drizzle the drips over the edges of the cake, allowing it to flow down the sides. Top with cream, sprinkles, or desired decorations.
Notes
Make sure to use gel food coloring for brighter colors and let the cake cool completely before stacking to prevent melting.
