Description
A delicious twist on classic French toast that combines creamy richness with comforting flavors, perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf French bread (preferably day-old, cut into 1-inch cubes)
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar (for topping)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for caramelizing)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Layer the cubed French bread evenly in the dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, salt, and cinnamon until smooth. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the cubed bread, ensuring all the bread is soaked in the custard.
- Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate overnight (for at least 8 hours).
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the dish from the fridge and let it sit at room temperature for about 15 minutes.
- Bake the French toast for 40-45 minutes, until the custard is set and the top is golden and slightly crispy.
- After baking, sprinkle the granulated sugar evenly over the top of the French toast. Use a kitchen torch to carefully caramelize the sugar, or place the French toast under the broiler for 1-2 minutes, watching carefully.
- Let the French toast rest for a few minutes before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy!
Notes
Best served warm with fresh fruits or a drizzle of maple syrup. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
