Description

A delightful twist on classic whoopie pies, combining rich chocolate cake mix with Oreo cookies for a delicious treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (13.25 ounces)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup butter (melted)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup Oreo cookies (crushed, about 8 cookies)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet: Line a baking sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Mix the dough: In a medium bowl, combine the cake mix, flour, melted butter, eggs, and sour cream. Mix until just combined using a hand mixer or by hand.
  3. Scoop the dough: Use a medium cookie scoop to place 24 mounds of dough on the prepared baking sheet. Refrigerate for 1-2 hours to chill the dough.
  4. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll chilled dough into smooth balls and place them about 2 inches apart on the baking sheet. Bake for 9-11 minutes until the edges are set and the tops start to crack. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  5. Prepare the frosting: In a medium bowl, beat softened butter and cream cheese until creamy and smooth. Add powdered sugar and mix until fully incorporated.
  6. Crush the cookies: Crush the Oreo cookies in a Ziploc bag or food processor. Add crushed cookies to the frosting and mix until even.
  7. Pipe the frosting: Transfer the frosting to a piping bag (or a large Ziploc bag with the tip cut off).
  8. Assemble: Pipe a generous amount of cookies and cream frosting onto half of the cookies, then sandwich with the remaining cookies.
  9. Serve: Enjoy immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. You can refrigerate them for up to 5 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

Chill the dough for best texture and use a cookie scoop for even-sized whoopie pies.
