Ingredients

  • 1 box vanilla cake mix
  • 1 box (3 oz) orange gelatin mix
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp orange zest
  • 1 cup butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven according to the cake mix instructions. Grease and flour the cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, orange gelatin mix, orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and orange zest. Mix until well combined.
  3. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pans.
  4. Bake according to the cake mix instructions, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Allow the cakes to cool completely before removing them from the pans.
  6. For the frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then frost the cooled cake layers.
  7. Decorate as desired and serve.

Notes

For a more intense orange flavor, add extra orange zest to the frosting. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week.
