A classic dessert known for its rich buttery flavor and moist texture, perfect for any celebration.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
- 1 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
- 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine (for frosting)
- 2/3 cup Hershey’s cocoa (for frosting)
- 3 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
- 1/3 cup milk (for frosting)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8 inch by 2 inch baking pans and set them aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter, milk, and vanilla to the bowl. Using a hand mixer, beat the mixture for 2 minutes while scraping down the sides of the bowl.
- Add the eggs to the batter and beat for another 2 minutes.
- Divide the batter equally between the prepared pans.
- Bake in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove the cakes from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then turn the cakes out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
- For the frosting, melt the butter. Stir in the cocoa, then alternately add powdered sugar and milk, beating until you reach a spreadable consistency.
- Lastly, stir in the vanilla and frost your cooled cake with the chocolate frosting.
