- 1 box German chocolate cake mix (with ingredients required for the cake mix: eggs, oil, water)
- 1 cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup chocolate syrup
- 1 1/2 cups sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the German chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions.
- Pour the cake batter into the prepared dish and bake according to package directions, usually 25-30 minutes.
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes.
- While the cake is still slightly warm, use a fork or skewer to poke holes all over the cake.
- In a small saucepan, heat the sweetened condensed milk and chocolate syrup together over medium heat until combined and smooth.
- Pour this syrup mixture evenly over the cake, ensuring it fills all the holes.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the evaporated milk, brown sugar, and vanilla extract. Stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Add the shredded coconut and chopped pecans, stirring until well combined.
- Spread this mixture over the cake, covering the top evenly.
- Refrigerate the cake for at least 1-2 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the topping to set.
- Slice and serve cold for a rich, indulgent treat.
Notes
Serve chilled, and consider garnishing with whipped cream or extra chopped pecans. Store leftover cake in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
