Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes, cold
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the mashed potatoes, beaten egg, flour, salt, and pepper. Mix well until everything is combined.
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned, then drain any excess fat.
  3. Stir in the garlic powder and season with additional salt and pepper.
  4. Take a small amount of the potato mixture and flatten it in your hand.
  5. Place a spoonful of the cooked ground beef and a pinch of cheddar cheese in the center.
  6. Bring the edges of the potato mixture together to enclose the filling, then gently flatten it to form a patty. Dust lightly with flour.
  7. Heat a little more olive oil in the skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 3-4 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and heated through.
  8. Serve hot with sour cream if desired.

Notes

Use cold mashed potatoes for the best texture. Experiment with different cheese varieties or add herbs for extra flavor.
