Description

A moist and rich chocolate cake perfect for any celebration, easily prepared at home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups (220g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups (300g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 1/2 cups (450g) powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup (80ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until smooth and well combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  7. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy, then gradually mix in the cocoa powder and powdered sugar.
  8. Slowly pour in the heavy cream and vanilla extract. Beat until smooth.
  9. Assemble the cake by placing one cooled layer on a serving plate, spreading frosting on top, then adding the second layer and frosting the entire cake. Decorate as desired.

Notes

Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Do not skip the boiling water; it activates the cocoa and makes the cake moist.
