- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp matcha powder (high-quality)
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp matcha powder (for frosting)
- 1–2 tbsp milk (as needed, for frosting)
- Extra matcha powder (for dusting, optional)
- Edible flowers or fresh berries (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, sift together flour, matcha powder, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until smooth.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack.
- In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and matcha powder, mixing until fluffy. Add milk if needed to achieve desired frosting consistency.
- Once the cakes have cooled, place one layer on a serving plate and spread frosting on top. Add the second cake layer and frost the entire cake.
- Dust the top with extra matcha powder. Garnish with edible flowers or fresh berries if desired. Slice and enjoy!
Notes
For best flavor, serve at room temperature. Store in an airtight container for up to three days at room temperature or up to a week in the fridge.
