Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, beat softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add eggs, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder with hot water until smooth. Set aside.
  6. Pour half of the vanilla cake batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle the chocolate mixture over the batter, then pour the remaining vanilla batter over the chocolate.
  7. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marbled effect.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Slice and serve as is or drizzle with melted chocolate or powdered sugar.

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Consider adding chocolate chips or nuts for extra flavor.
