- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat softened butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add eggs, mixing well after each addition.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder with hot water until smooth. Set aside.
- Pour half of the vanilla cake batter into the prepared loaf pan. Drizzle the chocolate mixture over the batter, then pour the remaining vanilla batter over the chocolate.
- Use a toothpick or skewer to gently swirl the batters together, creating a marbled effect.
- Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and serve as is or drizzle with melted chocolate or powdered sugar.
Notes
Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Consider adding chocolate chips or nuts for extra flavor.
