  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, softened for frosting
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pink food coloring (optional for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and baking soda. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined. Add pink food coloring to achieve the desired shade.
  4. Divide the batter among the pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely in pans before transferring to a wire rack.
  5. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  6. For the ganache, heat heavy cream until just simmering, pour over chocolate chips, let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  7. Frost the cooled cakes with buttercream, stacking them. Pour ganache over the top, allowing it to drip down.
