Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot coffee
  • 1 cup caramel sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans
  • 2 cups chocolate ganache
  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients, then stir in the hot coffee until well combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly into the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. Let the cakes cool completely in the pans, then level the tops with a knife.
  6. Spread a layer of cream cheese frosting between each cake layer.
  7. Pour caramel sauce over each layer and sprinkle with chopped pecans.
  8. Cover the entire cake with chocolate ganache and top with the remaining pecans.
  9. Chill the cake for 1 hour before serving to let the flavors meld.

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
