Description
A delightful dish combining lemon, basil, and Italian sausage in a creamy garlic ricotta sauce, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz bowtie pasta (farfalle)
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- Zest and juice of 1 lemon
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Instructions
- Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the chopped basil, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
- Stir in the ricotta cheese, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat. Stir in the sausage mixture and mix everything together.
- Serve hot, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired.
Notes
Use fresh basil for the best flavor. You can sun-dry tomatoes for a richer taste.
