Ingredients

  • 12 oz bowtie pasta (farfalle)
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • Zest and juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup whole milk ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the Italian sausage and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Stir in the chopped basil, lemon zest, and lemon juice. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. In a separate saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add the garlic and sauté for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in the ricotta cheese, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring, for 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  6. Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to coat. Stir in the sausage mixture and mix everything together.
  7. Serve hot, garnished with extra fresh basil if desired.

Notes

Use fresh basil for the best flavor. You can sun-dry tomatoes for a richer taste.
