Description

A rich and creamy traditional Indian dessert that is perfect for hot days. Make it at home with fresh ingredients and customize the flavors to your liking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (pistachios, almonds, cashews)
  • Saffron strands, for garnish (optional)
  • Chopped pistachios, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat the whole milk over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Reduce the heat to low and simmer, stirring frequently, until it reduces to about half its original volume (approximately 30-40 minutes).
  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk, powdered sugar, ground cardamom, and chopped nuts to the reduced milk. Stir well and continue simmering for another 10-15 minutes, until it thickens slightly.
  3. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to room temperature.
  4. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds or small cups and insert popsicle sticks. Freeze for at least 6 hours, until completely frozen.
  5. Remove from molds or cups, garnish with saffron strands and chopped pistachios if desired, and serve.

Notes

Stir the milk frequently while reducing it to avoid burning. You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less powdered sugar. Feel free to experiment with flavors by adding fruit purees or spices.
