Description

A delicious and satisfying dish with bratwurst sausages, sweet caramelized onions, and rich beer, perfect for gatherings or family meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 bratwurst sausages
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 12 oz lager or pale ale
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar (optional, for sweeter onions)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Buns and mustard (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until soft and golden, about 10–15 minutes.
  3. If desired, add the brown sugar for sweeter onions.
  4. Pour in the beer and bring it to a simmer.
  5. Add the bratwurst sausages and cook uncovered for about 10–12 minutes, turning occasionally.
  6. Transfer the brats to a grill or grill pan and cook until browned and grill-marked, about 3–5 minutes per side.
  7. Serve the brats on buns or straight from the skillet with the onions spooned over the top.

Notes

Cook onions slowly for best results; experiment with different beers and add spices if desired.
