- 1 cup Granulated Sugar (divided)
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder (divided)
- 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 2 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 4 tbsp Unsalted Butter (melted)
- 1 Large Egg Yolk
- 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Semisweet Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup Boiling Water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8-inch square baking pan.
- In a small bowl, combine 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/4 cup of cocoa, whisking them together until blended. Set it aside.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, the remaining sugar, the rest of the cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the milk, melted butter, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined. Then fold in the chocolate chips.
- Spread the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the reserved cocoa-sugar mix over the top.
- Gently pour 1 cup of boiling water over the batter without stirring.
- Bake for 22-24 minutes until the top is cracked and sauce bubbles underneath.
- Let it sit for about 10 minutes before serving warm.
