A delightful dessert that combines chocolate richness with warm fudge, forming its own sauce while baking.
Ingredients

- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1 3/4 cup hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Stir until the mixture forms a smooth batter.
- If using chopped nuts, fold them into the batter.
- Pour the cake batter into a greased 9×9-inch baking dish.
- In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and additional cocoa powder. Sprinkle this mixture over the cake batter.
- Carefully pour the hot water over the top of the cake (don’t stir!).
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the cake has risen and the top looks set.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days.
