Description

A classic dessert with a rich and creamy texture, this homemade vanilla ice cream is easy to make and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean (or 2 tsp pure vanilla extract)
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine heavy cream, milk, and half of the sugar. Split the vanilla bean and add both the seeds and the pod to the saucepan. Heat the mixture until it begins to steam.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk the egg yolks with the remaining sugar and salt until they turn pale.
  3. Slowly pour the warm cream mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously. Gradually add the mixture back to the saucepan.
  4. Cook over low heat, stirring until the mixture thickens (170–175°F). Strain it through a sieve to remove the vanilla pod.
  5. Let the mixture cool, then cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  6. Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  7. Transfer the ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours before serving.
  8. Scoop and enjoy your homemade vanilla ice cream!

Notes

For extra creaminess, use more heavy cream. If using vanilla extract, add it after cooking. Allow the mixture to chill thoroughly for the best results.
