Ingredients

  • 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream, whipped
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • Whipped cream, for topping
  • Chocolate shavings or curls, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Add water, oil, vanilla extract, and vinegar. Mix until smooth.
  3. Pour the batter into the pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely and cut it into small cubes.
  4. Beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream.
  5. Heat heavy cream in a saucepan over low heat until it begins to simmer. Pour the cream over the chocolate chips in a bowl. Let sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth.
  6. In a trifle dish or large glass bowl, layer the chocolate cake cubes, cheesecake filling, and ganache. Repeat the layers until the dish is full.
  7. Top with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings or curls.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

Use high-quality chocolate chips for a richer flavor in the ganache. Make the chocolate cake a day ahead to save time on the day of serving.
