A delightful treat that combines the rich flavors of cream cheese and the tropical sweetness of guava, perfect for breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup guava marmalade (plus more for drizzling)
  • 1 1/3 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for streusel)
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar (for streusel)
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract (for streusel)
  • 1/4 tsp salt (for streusel)
  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for streusel)
  • 4 oz cream cheese (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted (for glaze)
  • 4 tbsp whole milk (for glaze)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 13×9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a mixer, cream the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth.
  3. Add granulated and brown sugar to the mixer, followed by the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the mixer, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until well combined.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan. Layer with guava marmalade, then add the remaining batter on top.
  7. For the streusel, mix together melted butter, flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and salt until you get a crumbly texture. Sprinkle this mixture on top of the cake batter.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. For the glaze, mix cream cheese, confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Let the cake cool, then drizzle with the glaze and some extra guava marmalade before slicing and serving.

Notes

For a different twist, try adding nuts like pecans or walnuts to the streusel topping. This cake stores well and can be made a day in advance.
